The 10 Best Exit Songs for Your Wedding Ceremony
You’ve read your vows, exchanged the rings and finally said “I do”. Now it’s time to face the world together as newlyweds. So what song do you choose to mark this momentous occasion?
We love helping couples curate the perfect soundtrack to these special moments, and we’re always happy to offer advice for these important musical decisions. Of course, some couples know from day one exactly which song they want to hear as they take those first steps together, and we’ve been blown away by some of the phenomenal requests we’ve received over the past few years.
From funky upbeat numbers what will have all your guests on their feet, to mellow ballads that reflect on the nature of love, these are some of our favourite exit songs for your wedding ceremony.
1 - Signed Sealed Delivered
‘Here I am baby - signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours…’
This upbeat Stevie Wonder number is by far one of our most popular requests for an exit song and it’s easy to understand why. From the lyrics to the funky melody (that opening descending guitar line is truly iconic!), this song is guaranteed to get you and your guests in the mood to party.
2 - This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)
The perfect choice for any couple, confidently declaring their undying love for one another. This will have your guests dancing in the aisles and is guaranteed to end your wedding ceremony on a joyful, upbeat note.
3 - Lovely Day
Another popular request for weddings, this is the perfect exit song to walk back up the aisle to as a newly married couple, knowing that a very lovely day indeed awaits.
4 - Tonight Tonight
‘We're not the same, we're different tonight…’
An unusual choice perhaps, but perfect for couples who want something a little different on their wedding day. Now, we have to throw our hands up and confess that this song would never have crossed our minds if one of our fabulous brides hadn’t requested it as the final song in her wedding ceremony.
We will fully admit we were a little apprehensive at first, but we trust our couples as much as they trust us, so we agreed to try our best. Once we put our own unique spin on it however (Smashing Pumpkins in 3 part harmony is an experience) and agreed to omit the line about crucifixion in the bridge (we like to keep things family-friendly at weddings) we fell head over heels for it and it’s become a firm favourite ever since.
5 - Come What May
One of the most romantic songs in the world (at least in our opinion), this iconic ballad is the perfect declaration to start your journey together as a newly-married couple. A word of caution however, there’s rarely a dry eye in the room after this emotional number so make sure to have the tissues ready.
6 - Hakuna Matata
‘It means no worries for the rest of your days…’
What a beautiful sentiment to hear ring out as you step forth into the world as newlyweds for the first time! This was the recessional at a beautiful Disney-themed wedding ceremony that featured some of the most iconic love songs and upbeat, joyful numbers to celebrate this special couple’s union.
7 - Better Together
This mellow Jack Johnson song is always a hit at weddings. It’s perfect for chilled summer weddings with a boho vibe.
8 - Love Is In The Air
‘Love is in the air, everywhere I look around
Love is in the air, every sight and every sound…’
Love will most certainly be in the air with this disco classic ringing out. If you want to put your guests in the mood for dancing then you can’t go wrong with this funky 70’s hit.
9 - All You Need Is Love
Before you ask, yes, we have sung this with a trumpet player emerging from the congregation to surprise everyone with the iconic intro. Love Actually has a lot to answer for, but they definitely got it right with this Beatles classic. There’s a reason it’s one of the most popular wedding songs out there.
10 - Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now
‘And we can build this dream together
Standing strong forever
Nothing's gonna stop us now…’
This is probably one of our favourite requests of all time - you can never go wrong with an 80s power ballad after-all (especially when you sneak in a key change that wasn’t in the original). It’s the perfect song to close your ceremony and kickstart the rest of your wedding celebrations in style.
